Blasting Off For Mars

   Rapper/actor Ice Cube is on his way to Mars in John Carpenter's "Ghost of Mars." The action sci-fi flick began shooting in mid-August in New Mexico.
   The movie will co-star Natasha Henstridge, who signed on to replace the injured Courtney Love. Love was released from the project after suffering an ankle injury training for the part.
   Cube has transitioned from the music scene to the big screen with success in films like "Friday," "Next Friday" and the mega-hit "Three Kings."

Hopes To 'Glitter' In Big Screen Debut

   R&B singer Eric Benet will make his movie debut in "All That Glitters" for Columbia Pictures and 20th Century Fox with co-star and fellow musical artist Mariah Carey. Benet, engaged to actress Halle Berry, does have some acting experience. You may have seen him on the WB sitcom ``For Your Love.''
   "Glitter" is shooting in Toronto but is set against the backdrop of the New York club scene as a young singer tries to make it in the industry.
   In the movie, Benet will play Ceasar, an R&B singer and songwriter (there's a stretch!).
   Additional cast members will include singer Da Brat and Tia Texada and British actor Max Beesley.

"The New Guy" Pairs Comedian and Country Pop Star

   Revolution Studios reports that comedian Eddie Griffin and country/pop singer Lyle Lovett will co-star in their comedy "The New Guy," from writer Ed Decter, who co-wrote "There's Something About Mary."
   Griffin and Lovett? Whoa! There's a match made somewhere outside of heaven.

Lions Gate Bought Fishburne's "Life"

   Lions Gate Films purchased the North American rights to "Once in the Life," actor Laurence Fishburne's directorial debut that Fishburne adapted for the big screen from his own stage play "Riff Raff," which ran at New York's Circle Rep Theater.
   Fishburne's baby is an urban drama about a criminal and his half-brother (Fishburne and Titus Welliver) who discover that at least 'once in a life' you can find brotherhood and friendship when you finally come to understand that the choices you make affect the path of your life.
   Fishburne also stars in the film along with co-stars Eamonn Walker, Dominic Chianese Jr., Paul Calderone, Annabella Sciorra and Gregory Hines.
   The 1993 Oscar nominated Fishburne's most recent role was in the sci-fi movie hit "The Matrix.''
   The movie is scheduled for release in October.

"Star Trek 10" In The Works

   Trekies may soon see Levar Burton and Michael Dorn reprise their 'Next Generation' roles as Jordi and Worf in yet another 'Star Trek' movie. Although the studio hasn't committed to the movie yet, it looks like it will happen according to Patrick Stewart, most recently of "X-men" fame and captain of the 'Next Generation' crew.
   Stewart recently let slip that a tenth 'Star Trek' script is in the works. He revealed that a 28-page storyline, co-developed by John Logan, Brent Spiner (who plays the android Data) and Rick Berman, 'Star Trek's' long time executive producer, is currently being worked into an actual screenplay by Logan for what will be "Star Trek 10."

"Blade" To Slice & Dice Its Way Into Theaters Again

   The sequel to "Blade" with Wesley Snipes begins shooting in February.
   According to Snipe's the story for the new installment is even better than the first.
   This time, the powerful elite of the vampire council have to approach their nemisis Blade for protectection from a new breed of super-vampires who feed on other vampires.

Will Smith May Shoot New Line Casino Flick

   The rumor mill has it that the defunct Moulin Rouge, the country's first self-styled interracial hotel and casino is the object of Will Smith's latest film negotiation. This one doesn't have a title yet and Gary Ross may direct and, and, and….
   We'll have to wait and see if this film, based on the true story, gets its star and director signed and ever gets off the ground.

Lil' Zane Back-To-Back On Big Screen

   The 18-year old rapper just finished filming "Finding Forrester," starring Sean Connery and now has a part in Eddie Murphy's "Dr. DoLittle" sequel.
   He'll play boyfriend to actress Raven Symon, Dr. Dolittle's daughter.

Morgan Freeman May Re-team with Ashley Judd

   Morgan Freeman may be teaming up with Ashley Judd again for the thriller "High Crimes," if all goes well in negotiations with 20th Century Fox.
   A Harvard Law School professor defends her husband after the Army declares him a deserter and mass killer. She gets help from an ex-judge advocate attorney (Freeman's role).
