BLACK ACTOR'S DILEMMA REVEALED IN NEW POLL
SAG sponsored poll
results are no surprise.

A study conducted by the University of Southern California for the Screen Actors Guild reveals that African-American actors make up 16% of the characters seen on TV.   But Anne-Marie Johnson, who heads SAG's Ethnic Employment Opportunity Committee, says the numbers also are "very deceiving" since the poll also counted blacks that are all too often cast in small parts where the actors are seen, "almost like furniture."

WHITNEY URGED TO
GET HELP
,
But alleged to have said "no."

EMINEM RECONSIDERS
HIS ACTING DEBUT

Rapper wants his
scenes out of picture.

Amid all the gun charges surrounding Eminem right now, you'd think his attention wouldn't be so focused on his film debut, but it is.
According to Launch.com, the rapper wants his scenes cut from the final release of the video movie "Da Hip Hop Witch," a spoof of "The Blair Witch Project,".
The movie, which was developed for direct video release, is under attack from Eminem and his lawyers as they press the producers to remove his scenes from the film.
The film's producers, however, are crying foul and are said to be determined to leave the scenes in.

"SHAFT" CHARACTERS
CRITICIZED BY MEDIA

The New York Post
decries casting.

In a recent article New York Post columnist Jonathan Foreman took issue with the casting of Blacks in the roles of Hispanics in the hit movie "Shaft."
The roles he quoted were Vanessa Williams' character, Carmen Vasquez, and Jeffrey Wrights' Peoples Hernandez.
Foreman admitted that he liked the film but said "I'm sure there are plenty of Hispanic actors who could have done the roles. There are a lot of Hispanic actors and they don't get that much work. I think that's a shame - this could have been their big break."
John Leguizamo was originally cast in the role of Peoples Hernandez, but opted out just before shooting.
Maybe Foreman should have seen the SAG poll results on the problems black actors have in Hollywood. If he had, he'd know that Hispanics aren't alone in their quest for equal casting rights.
