Denzel Washington Safe On Streets

Denzel Washington recently revealed that during the shooting of his film "Training Day" he was safer than most on LA's gang troubled streets. The reason it seems is that a key gang members's mother is a big Denzel fan.
"She came over and gave me a hug," Washington recalled, "and said, 'Well, you know, Denzel, now I'm going to fix you something to eat." Washington says he went into the woman's house and had something to eat.
Washington added that "Someone told me later on, 'That's the head guy's mom. You're in over here now.'" After that, carloads of gang members would drive by shouting "Yo, Denzel, we love you, man!"
About his "Training Day" character, Detective Alonzo Harris, Washington describes him as a violent, corrupt narcotics cop an egomaniac, an arrogant thief, a killer and a liar.
Washington says making the film was fun because it was something new for him. "I've done almost 30 pictures now," he said, "and this is the first time I've ever done anything this terrible on screen.''
