BEHIND "FORMULA 51"

The flick, "Formula 51," is an action-comedy about American chemist Elmo McElroy, who heads to England to sell his designer drug. Samuel L. Jackson stars as McElroy and also co-produced the film. Jackson is actually the reason the film came to be in the first place. The film's writer was able to get the script to Jackson who quickly fell in love with it.

"I liked the fun of the script immediately and enjoyed what was going on even though there were all these people in different states of crisis," said Jackson.

Jackson contacted Hong Kong action director Ronny Yu about the project, who loved the idea of Jackson acting in a kilt and carrying a golf bag. Yu explained: "Golf is Sam's passion, so when I was approached by him to do this movie, the golf bag had already been incorporated into the script. I made use of the golf club as a sort of Chinese Kung Fu weapon for McElroy to swing at people. So there's a little bit of a traditional Kung Fu touch to it, but philosophically, the golf thing is very interesting. It's a one-man game; you always challenge yourself to be better. You don't have an opponent and you're always trying to improve your game. That's pretty interesting for me."
