Danny Devito plays Bill Rago, an advertising executive who loses his lucrative job, only to discover he's not qualified to do anything else. That is until a unemployment counselor lands him a job teaching basic comprehension to borderline Army washouts. To accomplish this feat, Devito teaches the recruits Hamlet. However, it's really not clear how reading Hamlet helped the recruits pass basic training. I guess maybe it really doesn't matter, because the slick dialogue and bantering between Devito and Gregory Hines, the tough as nails drill sergeant, provides enough comic relief to sit through this flick.
