The Pelican Brief  is based on John Grishm's best selling novel about a law student (Pretty Women's  Julia Roberts) running from CIA and FBI assassins. It all boils down to Roberts discovering a real estate swindle to drill oil from a government protected Louisiana pelican nesting area. After several attempts on her life, Roberts takes her findings to investigative journalist, Denzel Washington who is working on the same case from a different end. Washington believes Roberts, and wants to break a murder case which he thinks is bigger than Watergate.      As expected, Washington has to convince his skeptical editor who won't believe any evidence short of a dead body, bagged and tagged. The movie is both thrilling and exciting as Washington and Roberts manage to stay one step ahead of assassination.      Once again Washington gives a charismatic outstanding performance in this well acted and skillfully directed thriller.
