Coverage:

Based on the Dark Horse comic book, Mystery Men follows an ensemble of super hero wanna-bes, who are called upon to use their dubious "powers" to save a bustling metropolis when Champion City's beloved real super hero-protector, Captain Amazing (Greg Kinnear), is kidnapped.
The wanna-be rag-tag heroes, led by The Shoveler (William H. Macy), The Bowler (Janeane Garofalo ) and Invisible Boy (Kel Mitchell) square off against the dastardly Casanova Frankenstein (Academy-Award winner Geoffrey Rush), and try to stop him from taking over Champion City.
In the traditional film noir of Batman and The Mask, Mystery Men is an action-comedy which strongest moments come when the film shows off its characters in a Metropolis setting that has its skyscrapers touching the sky, and its mean streets are straight out of Blade Runner. With heroes whose weapons are flying cuttlery, haunted bowling balls and flatulence summoned on command, Mystery Men is an acquired taste.
