A young lion fights to take his place in the natural order of jungle life in this Disney full length animated feature. Matthew Broderick (Ferris Bueller) is the voice of Simba, the lion prince, who after several years of self-exile, returns to his father's kingdom to overthrow his evil uncle Scar (voice of Jeremy Irons), and his three hyenas henchmen.
The tone of The Lion King is a little more serious than your average run-of-the-mill Disney flick. But that's not to say, The Lion King does not appeal to children.
Unfortunately there are only a couple of memorable songs, one that comes to mind is the terrific opening sequence. However, most of the characters fall flat, with the exception of Scar -- which is too bad, because the hero should be the most memorable character, not the villain.
The Lion King is an entertaining and great looking film, but it's not a great film when you compare it to Beauty and the Beast or Aladdin -- it just doesn't measure up. |
