Waiting to Exhale  fans can stop holding their breath. How Stella Got Her Groove Back  is better than Waiting to Exhale. Based on Terry McMillan's best-seller, Angela Bassett plays a single mom and successful stockbroker who takes a Jamaican vacation, and meets a young stud (Taye Diggs) half her age and falls in love. Despite objections by her sisters and friends, Bassett imports her Jamaican treasure to the states, which sets up a series of negative situations which are inescapable because of the couple's age difference.      How Stella Got Her Groove Back is a surprising movie for both men and women. The film's only sin is it runs long after the plot is finished. The filmmaker couldn't resist setting up a series of scenes that don't advance the plot but do give the audience the chance to clap and say, "I know that's right! Tell him, girlfriend!"
