Coverage:

I had high hopes for "Glitter," Mariah Carey’s semi-bio, about a 1980s New York City a night club singer who suddenly rises to fame. Unfortunately every thing that glitters isn’t gold. (Sorry about the cliché.) Maybe the chanteuse should stick to song writing, and let the screenplay writers do their job? Ripping off the themes of the much successful "Purple Rain" and "A Star Is Born," Carey over comes abusive parents to stick to her dream of singing. She gets the city’s most popular deejay to listen to her demo whom she falls in love with as her popularity rises. With a predictable and crocodile-tears ending, "Glitter" is littered with overacting and a cast in search of a good script. Blech!.
