The Fire This Time is a cutting edge documentary examining the history of racism and life in LA's South Central. It's an enlightening film looking at the beginning and end of the Black Panther Party and how the U.S. government used covert CIA and FBI methods to undermine and compromise its leaders.
The film portrays the government as having spoon fed the media information such as the '65 Watts riot as being a communist plot -- totally overlooking the conditions, such as poverty and lynchings, that the people in Watts were subjected to by the city of Los Angeles. The filmakers also do an excellent job of placing the '92 riots after the Rodney King verdict into perspective. |
