Eighty-five miles northeast of Denver is the tiny town of Dearfield -- one of a dozen black towns in 20th century Colorado. Denver's Channel 4 reporter Reynelda Muse and director Donnie Betts teamed up to make this documentary, narrated by John Amos, about the boom, struggles, and finally the death of Dearfield. Betts uses interviews with original settlers and re-enactments to tell Dearfield's story. Dearfield is a sincere look at black Colorado history told in a stimulating and sparkling way. |
