Soul Train Creator/Host Dies

Don Cornelius, 75, the suave conductor on Soul Train, the hippest trip in America, died Wednesday Feb. 1, 2012 of a self-inflected gunshot wound. Los Angeles police found Cornelius at his home on Mulholland Drive around 4 a.m. Cornelius died an hour later at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. No other details have been released. Soul Train, which ran nationally from 1971 to 2006, was R&B’s answer to American Band Stand. The teenage dance show helped introduced top R&B artist such as Marvin Gaye, Barry White, The Temptations, Jackson Five and others to mainstream American. Cornelius stepped aside as host of Soul Train in 1993 as pop culture began to assimilate black culture.
Too $hort Squelches Hoax

The reports of rapper Too $hort’s death are greatly exaggerated, according to the hip-hop artist. $hort tweeted fans earlier this week that rumors about his demise were just that rumors. The rapper/producer assured fans that he’s been in the studio working on an upcoming album. $hort posted on his Facebook page: “I'm not dead just mackin'! Phone is blowing up, I'm not dead been in the lab working on my 19th album, No TrespASSing dropping February 2012.”
